Default slow off the Line

Hey everyone,
I just bought a 2004 Polaris 700EFI. I love the way it handles and rides but I am curious about the performance. I have ridden many new and old quads, and mine doesn't seem to be all that quick off the line and it seems like it takes some time to get up to speed. Does this sound like a 700 EFI? I would have thought this thing would lift the front wheels off the ground when i mash the throttle and have a 0-40 better than 50 seconds. Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated. New to the forum and can't wait to get into some new discussions about something other than sleds(snowmobiling). I love it but I am ready for Spring and some good, deep Mud!!!!! Thanks all.

Sounds a little slow to me too. I do not know too much about the 700efi but would say clutching may have something to do with it or not enough air getting in or maybe I know this sounds weird but I had it happen to me was a weak spark. My spark was jumping from a wire that was cracked and it had those symptoms slow off the line no power but it idled or revved fine just sitting there but when under load was horrible for power with no backfiring or other symptoms of a bad spark took we abit to figure it out.
0 to 40 should be more like seconds not 50 seconds hope you get it fixxed and maybe I have helped you out or someone here can

Thanks for the quick replys. I just checked the belt and the plugs and the filter. All look normal!! The Belt was not worn at all. The quad only has about 47 miles(15.2 hours) on it. The air filter had some light dust on the Outer filter sleave, but that was it. The plugs were light chocolate brown on the tip, and a black base by the threads. To my knowledge, for an EFI, that is what I want. I have not been able to check for a bad plug wire but I will try it tonite. Like I had explained before, it just does not seem like it pulls that hard. When you mash the throttle going down a trail at say 20mph, you should get a rush and feel it pulling hard. Mine sounds like it wants to, it just doesn't. Thanks again guys.

you may have a bad cluch and the slides might not be letting it close all the way... or your buttons may be shot already just because it has 47 miles on it doesnt mean it couldnt be bad from the factory... my 500 wouldnt go over 40 mph when i got it took it in cuz i didnt want to mess with it and it turned out my clutch was junk

The 700 should easily lift the front wheels up. Did you buy it new? If so has it allways been this way or has it gotten worse? Most people will change the primary spring to get better performance off the line. It is a cheap mod ($20) that you can do yourself.

It is, without a doubt, not what I expected. I have not contacted the dealer about this as of yet. The sad part is that I have been so busy with work, (Dent Wizard) I have not gotten a chance to really get out and take a hard core ride. I will be looking into the clutch issue since alot of replys have been about this. My issue is that the warrenty is up and I don't know what (this) dealer will do. I guess all I can do is try. I love the way it rides so far and hope that the slow starts can be resolved. Again I thank everyone for their time spent with this and will let all know what I find out!! Yes, by the way, I checked BOTH plugs and they seemed to be the same.

It has, pretty much, always been like it is. I was told there was a break in period before it produced it's full power and torque. I am at almost 16 hours of normal riding and it has not changed. That's why I decided to start the thread, to see if anyone else has talked or complained about this. The clutch thing is one thing I will be looking into. Thanks again
