Default Whats going on here?

I am so confused by this. I just bought a new k & n air filter and when i put it on it runs great for about 10 seconds and then the rpms start to drop and after about 30 seconds it dies. When i put on original air filter on it runs great. It idels at about 1200 rpms. I have played with the idle and everything and cant get it to keep runing with my k & n air filter. It no good if it wont run with it on. I even soaked it becasue some one told me it might have too much oil on it. That didnt work. Do i just have a bad one or what. I email K & N and its like they dont beleve me. You can blow threw it and it is geting air threw it but it just seems like its not enough. The machine runs and idles great with the polaris one on and with out but just wont with the K & N. I would appreciate any ideals.

The K&N filter moves a lot more air than your factory air filter. You may be running lean, however usually when the run lean, they will get hot and can quit on you but not normally within ten seconds. You may have to rejet up for more fuel. Try putting your choke on some to see if MORE fuel will help solve the problem It may not want to run with the choke out but it is a place to start. But if it does, you will know that you are running to lean. Is this a 4 cycle or 2 cycle? Dean

Another idea asfter re-reading your post. Every K&N air filter I have ever had moves more air than the factory. However in your case it may not be so. If the air pulls through HARDER than with your factory, it actually pulls MORE fuel and may in fact be flooding it out. Either way, it is easy to test and if you are flooding it out, then rejet leaner. Usually this is not the case however but where it quits so soon, it seems more like to MUCH fuel rather than not enough, strange as it sounds to me..Dean

Parkerman, am I reading your post right? Your quad runs good without(as in, no filter at all) OR with the stock air filter on, and only acts up after you install the K&N?

It runs good with the stock filter and with out. It quits when the k& n is on. How do i change the richness of the fuel. How do i make it richer or leaner?

Something is definately wrong with that filter. Maybe you have to much oil in it like the other guy said. That K&N should flow better than the stocker but not as much as running w/o a filter. I would totally clean it and oil it again according to the directions. Here is a thought, did you use the proper oil on it before install?

Forget the "Is it a 2 cycle or 4 cycle? " I see now that it is 700. I should read it all. If it runs without a filter and with the factory, I would say that the k&N is pulling in additional fuel because it it is pulling harder trying to get air. Never to old...

P.S. Pretty funny "Did you take the plastic off..."

Well i think i am just going to give up on the k& n air filter. They might be the best but if it wont run with it its no use to me. So i guess i have one for sale. I didnt even oil it after i soaked it so its not the oil holding it back. I just cant figue it out becasue there is no way that it is geting more air threw the k& n then with out a filter.
