Default stuck in 4x4

Hi,
My 03' 600 is stuck in 4wd, I can't seem to dissengage it. It seems to be binding in reverse too, any ideas? Its not electrical, it must be a mechanical failure of some kind. I had an inexperienced person use it to plow my driveway while I was on vacation and I'm not sure what happened.

Any help would be appreciated,`

Thanks,
-m

Both front wheels are concstantly stuck engaged, like they don't even come out some of the time? If both are doing it like that, it makes it hard to believe that it is both hubs gone bad, but it's worth a look in them. When was the last time you changed the hub oil?

EDIT: Is it even in AWD when driving straight forward with traction? Because if it disengages then, maybe your AWD circuit is shorted or something. But if it constantly locked, you are right, it has to be mechanical.

You are not alone with this problem! Do a search and you will find some good info!

I would take your machine and get it up on a lift (maybe you can find one of these crewline everyone is raving about)

Anyway get it up in the air, start your machine and turn off your AWD switch then shift it into low only the back wheels should turn, If they all turn roll the front wheel forward faster then it is turning with your hand and it should unlock the hub. You now should be able to stop the wheel with your hand. You may have to do this on both sides to unlock the hub.
If you can not get the wheels to stop and they are clearly being driven and not just spinning free then you need to check your switch and see if it is working. You will find the plugs for it under the hood. Unplug it and see if that stops the wheels.

Do this check and post back and someone will help you from there.

Also call your local dealer and see if they have a fix for this as it has been a known problem with the new hub setup.

I was figuring I'd have to get it off the ground and play with it, it's a 600 so it has the center hub. I'll put a volt meter on the connector off the hub and we'll see if I get any voltage.
I called a couple of dealers and got the same old story..... sorry bring it in.

Thanks for the help, I'll post more info after I do some testing.

Sure enough, low fluid in the front diff.... topped it off and that freed it up. I've been changing the fluid twice a year as there's never been any signs of a leak. I guess I better start checking it more often, hopefully there's no perminate damage.

thanks guys.
