We ripped a cv boot on the rear of the 96 500 and i was wondering if they make a boot that splits and you can reseal it so you dont have to take the whole axle off.

 

Not that I have extensive knowledge/experience, but I have never seen nor heard of one. Although easier to install, it seems like it is a bad idea because these must remain sealed for their entire lives. I don't think that they would be made because the half hour saved installing it is not really worth the risk of hurting a joint in the long run.

 

replacing the boots is not that bad. did mine on the front and it took about 15mins to remove and replace axle. took me about an hour to clean up joints and repack them with grease and replace boots. its really not that hard at all and from what im hearing the rear is easier than the front.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

No they don't make boots like that. Although I heard Polaris is going to have them for the 2006 models..so I've heard. I can change a boot in 20 mins.

 

Yep, a rear outside takes about 20 minutes. Inside's take a little longer cuz u hafta take the axle off.

 

I heard there was a special sealant that is used that seals it water tight and it has a very strong bond. I think it would be nice because we leave our atv up at our hunting shack all fall and part of winter, and we usually rip a boot during the season (running through corn fields, water holes with brush in them etc.) and we don't have the time or tools to fix it up there.
