my machine wont start with the elect.start but will start with the pull starter.I checked the battery it seems to have a full charge on it. The solinoid clicks when I turn the key but it wont start it. I cleaned the battery terminals up,still natta, what s wrong with my machine?

sounds like there either is a loose wire(check all the wires) at the silonoide? or maybe something wrong with the starter Maybe the battery doesnt have enough charge in it to turn it over,Do the headlight shine bright?

Hey there..I know this was a long time ago....did you ever get the problem fixed, if so, how? I have the exact same deal going on right now with my sportsman 500. Thanks for anything, hdnvn

The quad will crank forever but will not start while cranking. It will start when I use the pull start, first, second pull. If I put a jump to it with jumper cables it will start with the starter. So I replaced the battery. No good. I then replaced the starter and still no good. I used to be able to use the starter and get it started after it warmed up, I havnt tried this in a while though. I've gotten used to just using the pull starter. I tried starting it in the dark as to see if maybe there were arc p[oints along the wiring harness, no luck. I did not look under the pod though. Any suggestions? Thanks for the response

Mine did that. It would not start with starter but would with the pull start. In my case it turned out that I had to sand the flywheel contact and pulse coil because moisture put a film of rust on both surfaces. It was a easy job once the pull start cover was off.

Hey there..your response really pumped me up as far as possibilities of fixing this problem once and for all. It's been a complete mystery. Let me askyou this..whats the difference betwween pull starting and key starting as far as the pulse coil is concerned? Thanks for the reply...Harry Donovan

damn i forgot about that. i read that along time ago. i think the really only big differnce is that the pull starter pulls the engine over faster then the electric start i beleave. give that a try to see if in deed theres a small build up. let us know thanks.

Yes ,the pull start rotates faster so I think it generates more power to get a healthier spark. In my case there was metal specs stuck to the pulse coil magnet also, all kinds of mud, water and things were getting pass my rope handle and into the pull start housing.
