Default 25s on a scrambler

I just called Four Stroke Tech to see how things were coming on my engine (600 stroker kit), and asked if there was anything different I would need to do it I was going to put this engine in a scrambler instead of the original intended sportsman 500. He seemed shocked when I said I wanted to run 25" tires on a scrambler.

Has anyone compared a sportsman 500 with 25s to a scrambler with 25s? how differently are they geared? Maybe the sportsman is geared lower because it comes with the 25s stock.

The Xplorer's had 25's on them and they are geared the same as the Scrambler...or so I thought. There were a few people on here that had 25's on their Scramblers and as far as I know they worked fine. I think you'll be allright.

I put 25's on my 2004 scrambler. Great ground clearence. You definately have to reclutch. The only problem i had was a lack of power on the top end. After reclutching the front would still come of the ground very easily. But if your going bigger motor you would have no problem with power. Please keep me informed on how you like you motor in the scrambler. How much of a power increase did you feel and so on.

Has anyone tried bigger than 25's? I have a line on a bunch of hiperformance parts for the 400 and was thinking of trying 27's or 28's. Am I crazy? This will be strictly a mud machine.

I appreciate the replies. I think I'm going to head this route. It sounds like what I'd rather be riding than the sportsman.

Anyone know if a heelclicker clutch kit for a sportsman 500 will work on the scrambler? I've already got this kit for my sportsman and I think I'd just move it over there.

I'll definitely keep everyone posted on what I think when I get er done. Here's the setup I'm going with...

2004 scrambler
-25" mudlites front and rear on ITP black AL 12" rims
-explorer transmisssion swap to get low range
-heelclicker clutch
-600 stroker kit with 11:1 compression and long duration cam and head work.

I've got my 96 sportsman 500 for sale if anyone is interested. Side View I just replaces all the u joints in the rear shafts, all the bushings and bearings in the rear suspension, and a few in the front suspenion. It currently has 26" bighorns on it and a warn winch bumper SEEN HERE and winch. I will sell as is for $3800 with new tires rims, winch and bumper. If you're looking to save some money, but you're interested I'll take money off for certain items changed over to stock. Take off $500 if you want the stock tires and rims, and/or $300 if you don't want the winch/bumper. Other than that the bike is stock except for the k&n filter. email me for more pix or more info. I will ship it anywhere in the lower 48 states for $350 via forward air.

Default 25s on a scrambler

Inside the tranny on the scrammys is a set of sprokets wich drives the front prop shaft, with a #50 series chain (same as rear drive chain) one of these sprokets is a 20 something tooth, and the other is a 14 tooth. The 14 tooth sproket has the same spline count as the rear output shaft.
I thought about swapping the 14 tooth for a 12 or an 11 tooth. Wudnt this gear the front driveshaft down? Then you could run 25s with ease. After you lower the rear ratio also.

It would be REAL nice to do the explorer trans swap!
