I have a 700 6 mos old I have a question I notoce when i ride it there is alot of clunking noise coming from it when you start out. I also notice when you go into a ditch slow the left front tire or shock make a clunking noise. I also need to know when you push up and down on the front rack should there be play in the drive train.. Thanks Hunter

I have an '04 700 efi and I can't say that I have any of the symptoms you are describing. If it is that new, are you over your break-in period? Have you changed all of your gearcase fluids and oils? Thats the only thing I could think of right away. Watch for responses from ELKBOW, SILVERBULLET, or many others that have helped me out in the past. Good Luck.

You may want to check your front lower ball joints. They may be loose. If they are you can take the cotter pin out and retighten the nuts to take up the slack. Polaris has had problems with the nuts backing out and having play in the ball joints. Most people think the balljoints are bad but they are not. ALL of the SP's have normal drivtrain clunking. They are very noisy. Not that there is anything wrong with them. Its just the famouse Polaris noise.

To check the ball joints you want to jack up the front end. Go to each tire and put one hand on the top of the tire and one hand on the bottom. Then wiggle the tire back and forth. You will feel play in the ball joints if they are loose or bad.

Do a check on the machine, but what it sounds like your are describing is the driveline noise that is in all polaris machines. If you are going slow and get on and off the gas, you will hear a clunking noise, you will get the same noise as you talked about in ruts, over rocks, etc., because you are on and off the gas.

As far as compressing the rear suspension, yes the driveshaft will move in and out slightly, but I doubt you can compress it enough to see the movement very easily.

If you have any doubts, take it to the dealer.

Revise some of the question I jacked the back end up on the 700 and moved the wheels forward and backward a little bit and noticed alittle play in the drive train is this normal.

dam Elkbow you beat me to it again. LOL you must live on here. just kidding. if that was the case we would be next door neibors huh. I second Daves comment. your clunking noise on startouts is problably the normal/typical clutch/driveline noise at slow speeds when getting on/off the throttle. It upsets everyone with a polaris atv but trust me I have learned to live with it and to be honest I don't even notice the noise anymore. as far as the left front tire/shock area clunk I think you need to do a good check on the front end just to see if there is anything broken. also check your cv boots. there has been some talk about boots ripping and water/dirt getting inside the boot.

I've got a '03 700 and mine has always made a noise when I inially take off. The dealer told me up front that this is just their nature.
