how many miles does your polaris have
#41
One thing, is the HOnda Rincon has had major tranny problems, a Honda dealer told me that on the weekend, so your lucky.
Another thing, Polaris is NOT the same as the other manufacture's, I love the look of them but if you read this, almost everyone who answered has had some problems or another, I have 3500 hard miles on my 2002 traxter XT now and have BROKEN nothing, changed the tires to help ride quality and regular oil changes.
I would love to get a Polaris 700 EFI, but there's still too many IF's, fuel pumps going, seals, boots (driver error) Belts all the time, (Check Yamaha's NEVER blow belts no matter how much you abuse them.) I will say one thing they are gettting better but to count on them having NO PROBLEMS when you get past 3500 HARD miles is almost impossible, heck 90% of people that replied have 1/2 of what I have and have change some parts or another. Ride Quality #1 forsure, but I can't afford breakdowns.
Lets keep it going.
My buddy I ride with was up to 2500 good miles and changed a belt and a starter on his 03 700 twin, then the MOTOR went, thank goodness Polaris covered it, and this guy uses Polaris Oil's and products.
Even he has now said, there not up to Par with other manufactures, getting there but slowly, you can't abuse them like other machines and not change ANYTHING, the term you PLAY you PAY suits them perfectly.
I think I will wait till 2008, maybe then they'll get the Bomb Traxter Toughness.
And I'm not wanting to Bash here, just look at the other posts carefully.

I have to agree with Stumppuller1. My Sportsman has been okay I guess. But I will not own another Polaris. It gets beat, but it's just been nikel and dimeing me to death. Plus, at least as far as the Sportsmans go, they are way to heavy. My 400 has about 100 pounds on a 660 Grizzley. That chassis needs to go on a serious diet in my opinion. Just my $.02.

Folger,
I don't want people thinking I'm just being nasty, as I'm looking for a second machine and the Polaris was in the top of my picks, the 05's are so nice looking but there is just to many IF's with them. I'm not mechanically inclined, I change oil and keep my machine clean, that's it really and the odd greasing but as far as having to tear things apart, not me.
Right now my Traxter has a suspension kit so it rides nice and I've put the Goodyear MTR's from the AC 650 on it so it really rides nice now, and I have hard Mud, Water, Snow, and fast hard riding miles. I haven't even changed the breaks yet, so I can't kick, its cost me oil and gas that's it. I get 120 miles on 5 gallons of gas, does 58mph on top end, and I don't have to worry about belts and clutches blowing on me in the bush as its a geared tranny but its just a little too heavy that's it.
Even the Outlander guys are beating the crap out of there machines with NO problems, except for that Voltage regulator issue that has been updated from what I've been told.

I only have 1000 miles on my 2002 500ho. I don't beat it up but I still go where ever I want to.
As of now I have not replaced anything. I would buy anouther 500 in a heart beat.

98 Sportsman 500
Miles: Don't know. The odometer stopped working at 2200 miles.
Replaced:
Both front hub seals.
Left side handlebar controls.
Radiator fan. About to have to replace a second.

Thanks for ALL the replys. I think every brand has their own bugs to be worked out. I have a 05 prairie 360 and it has been to the shop for minor things too. so they all need tender loving care after a hard days ride!!!
