Default Scrambler transmission problem

While riding this weekend, I started having problems with my transmission shifting into gear. I could get it to shift into reverse everytime but it was like I could not push the gear shifter far enough forward to get it into forward. I would have to keep going back and forth with the gear shift and i would eventually go. It didn't do this everytime. Sometimes it would get stuck in reverse and not come out, not even into neutral. I tried several different things including turning the 4x4 switch on and off, made sure there was no tension on the driveline(like being on an incline), and even turning the motor on and of during the process of trying to get it into gear. Nother ever seemed to work but eventually it would get into gear. Sometimes it would go only far enough to try and engage where you could hear the gears grinding but not messing into gear. I did a search but couldn't find anything. I also just bought this scrambler and haven't gotten a chance to get a manual on it yet so please explain clearly anything that might be helpful. The bike is a 99 4x4 500ho. Other than that, I love this thing. Went riding with 3 big utes and only had to be pulled out once because I slid off into some really deep ruts. The ute guys were impressed at how well it got through the mud with such short tires(stock size).

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Check the bellcrank on top the tranny where the rod hooks up at they are known for stripping out.
