What weight oil?
Zerowick has it about right. The first number is the viscosity at lower temps (not necessarilly really cold, but below operating temp). The second number (40) means that at hot temps it will not thin out more than a 40 wt oil would at operating temps.
The oil doesn't actually thicken up at higher temps as some have indicated.
