Default What weight oil?

I was wondering what weight oil everyone uses? I use the polaris 0w-40 syn. and was thinking of getting the Amsoil 10w40 syn.

just paid the $10 bucks to become a preferred customer with Amsoil so I get stuff at dealer cost. Even after shipping, it's cheaper than the Polaris oil and I can avoid the local Polaris Crook all together. I ordered some 0w-40 Four Stroke Synthetic designed for ATV's, I'm sticking with the recommended weight because it pumps to vital parts quicker at start-up, in theory anyway. I woudn't mess with a different weight.

Yea I have heard good things about Amsoil. Wouldn't 10w-40 and 0w-40 flow the same at start up? They are both 40 weight at start up and the after the engine is warmed up to temp one becomes 10 weight and the other 0 weight.

Turn your brain around, you got it backwards brother The first value is the start weight, hence 5w-30 in winter and 10w-30 in summer.

Peace

I would stick with the 0w-40 ... Going to a higher weight may cause a lack of oil at idle.

Ok let me get this striaght the first number is your start up weight. What is your second number? I always thought your second number 40 in this case is what the weight of the oil when its cold and the first number 10 or 0 in this case is when its hot. I know oil gets thinner when it gets hotter.

First value of 0 is the start weight for better flow when cold. As the engine heats up, as you said, oil gets thinner, the oil becomes a 40 weight viscosity to counter act the "thinning" effect and maintain lubricating properties instead of turning into "water". Make sense?
