oil leak-help

Default oil leak-help

have a sportsman 500 2003-ever since first oil change-cant get oil to stop leaking around drain plug on oil tank.anyone else have similiar problem and a fix?

There is supposed to be a gasket on the drain plug. If its not there then it will leak no matter how tight you get it. If you do have a gasket you might want to try a different kind of gasket.

its a plastic washer that comes with the oil change kit

be sure it is grit free and clean and it should hold

i have installed the plastic washer and it still continues to leak.

I would check to see if there was a gouge in the metal somewhere if that happened to me. Maybe the drain plug has a ding in it from dropping it on the ground or something. That could cause it to not seat right.

dont be scared to use a little rtv on the underside of the bolt head either

if it still leaks,,,,clean it really good and be sure its not leaking where the metal meats the plastic tank

Try thread tape on the bolt. If it still continues, it may have a crack in the threads on the tank.
