Default New Polaris Owner-Kinda new to the forum

Hello:

Bear with me a bit here as this is my first post here. Last year I was looking for my first quad and I found this place for advice. Ended up with a 2002 400 Sportsman. Yesterday I bought a 2005 700EFI. Used but only 250 miles. The plastic is kinda beat up (black isn't the best color if you care about how your stuff looks) but underneath it is perfect, nice and clean. Having been lurking around this forum for more than a year I would just like to comment that there are lots of people out there just like me looking for educated adivice. Just look at the registered users here compared to the "Lurkers". I have found that most threads have been good but the ones including Product Bashing and Flames are very annoying. Thanks for keeping most of them informative. Anyway I am checking on how this posting thing works here and to say thanks for the good advice. BTW I do most of my riding in the wonderful Black Hills of South Dakota. A state where they leave most of the snowmobile trails open to ATVs all summer. I have 400 miles of them within 100 yards of my summer home back door.

Hey Firetrail, welcome to the forums. I bought my first quad last summer and these forums have provided a lot of useful information. I live in Sioux Falls and want to take a trip to the Hills hopefully this fall. Are the snowmobile trails marked? Any maps? I've never been out there riding but I think it would be a good time. Good luck with your 700efi. It sounds like the folks on this forum that have one are really happy with it.

Hello:

Small world sometimes. I actually live in Sioux Falls also. Over in the SE Tuthill area. The Hills are great to ride in. Just grab a snowmobile trail map when you get in the hills. They are free. I think you can buy a more complete map. Some areas are closed but I ride up around Trailshead Lodge on Hwy 85. Right on the Wyoming boarder. A GPS is handy,as the scenery is some of the best anywhere, and I have been lost in Wy. a couple times. Hope the Hills gets some rain. Has been the driest winter since the eary '80s I am told and there is some talk of putting some serious restrictions on offroad activities due to fire danger.

Hey Firetrail, The hills are great to ride in. I live in Rapid City and was just up riding in the hills last week. How much was your 700EFi? I am looking at buying either a 500HO or 700EFi. I really like the power of the 700 compared to the 500HO. I ride a 96 400 Explorer right now and most things are better than it for power and speed. My cousin lives out in Peidmont, SD and we hit the trails in the hills from his house.

You're right, it is a small world. I live in SW Sioux Falls over by JFK Elementary. Thanks for the information about the Hills. I just hope I can make it out there this fall. If you know of any place around here to ride, please let me know. I don't really know of any place to go "legally" so I ended up making my quad street legal so I can drive it around town.
