I don't think anyone said a 500ho would stay with a 700efi..... I know a 500ho has it's hands full with a 700 carb.

Well my experience with my bro-in-laws 600 vs. my 700 is that I get about a length on him to 50-55 then I pull on him at topend by about 5 mile per hour! Same with the neighbors grizzly, only he gets me out of the hole by a length and then I topend him by about 5 mph! Never ran against a 500 though.

I think all this talk about drag racing really misses what we mostly do on our quads.......at least me anyway. We trail ride .

I bought a 400 because it does everything and goes everyplace that the others with more power do. It cost me $900 less than the 500. I go riding with guys who have Grizzly's, a guy with a 05 Sportsman 600 and a guy with a 700 EFI. Power is never an issue. Yes on the open road they can smoke by me......but so what! On many occasions I'm leading the pack and smoking them through the trails because raw power is not what makes for fast riding on technical trails.

The guy with the 700 EFI and I switched machines the other day and guess what.......we both think the 400 seems like it is lighter and more nimble. The suspension also seems more taut/less mushy and the 400 has a lot more hours/miles. He tells me he's thinking of getting a 500 EFI when they come out.
I must confess, however, that the short acceleration blasts on the 700 EFI were fun.

In my humble opinion, the 500 EFI will be the ideal......great balance of power/efficiency/fuel mileage/cold weather operation, proven bullet-proof engine and less weight than the twins. I would also say that the 500 EFI will get super good fuel mileage. I'm very happy with my 400......no problems so far. However, it does run poorly in the real cold temps (30 degrees or so and less) until it's warmed up and then it runs fine. I know EFI would completely eliminate that situation and just be better/more efficient/more powerful all around.

In a couple of years I'll be looking at the 500 EFI.

I've raced Jimmy's quad. My 500 pulls ahead by about 15 lengths to 50 mph. Ok, I am awake now. We have raced and he wins of course.

My 500 really woke up with the addition of a k&n air filter. Jimmy used to beat me bad. Now when we race he shoots a quad and a half ahead right away, then we stay at the same distance apart to about 40-50 mph. We have done this lots of times. I'm sure after 50 he would pull away.

Before I added the K&n he would really pull away from me. By the way, he has a k&n and slip on exhaust.

He and I plan to remove his k&n and put the stock exhaust back on for a race. (I may add the turbo off of my GN to the 500 for extra boost----did I fall asleep again?)

Good one Jefff. I wouldn't want to race your Grand National, that things wicked FAST!
If your 500 HO gets any faster I will have to race you with my 400...Scrambler!

Back in the saddle,
you are right but we still like to race and see who's faster, you know a guy thing.
I dont care if we're on our mountain bikes i want to race.

We have an old '95 sportsman 400 that we beat the **** outa, after recently fixing the lil things that needed replacing after 10 years shes still kicking, but my dad and i decided its time to get a new 4x4, i really like the efi but dont really have need for 700cc's, so we're debating the 500 HO, it looks awesome, dont really wanna wait around for the '06 versions w/ efi, was wondering if anyone had any real trouble wit their 500?

If your not sure on what to buy and would like to save alot of money. Wait until next year there will be thousands of used carbed 500s for sale when every one up grades to the 500EFI.
