rick ritter help about hpd
Since noone is replying I thought I'd help you on our sportsman 700s and we cut back the small intake tube back to where its larger and square and then mabe it back to factory length with a piece of rubber hose and went up a few sizes on the mainjet. That made a world of difference as all these bikes have choked up intakes but youll have to rejet its mandatory but easy.

The 500 Scrambler and 500 Sportsman share the same airfilter and airbox lid . The snorkling on the quads differ from each other , as does the box itself . The box probably differs mostly due to mounting .
The carburetors are jetted differently from the factory the differing snorkling is probably why , the engines are identical pretty well except for the stators I believe .
My concerns are as follows :
1) Will the seat fit with new lid ? I don't know myself .
2) The carb needles are different from these two models . Will if work with factory needle , or will a Scrambler needle work ?
3) The supplied main jet may not be correct for application (your pipe you are using may want a different size) this is not to big of a deal but something to note .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I can tell you for sure is if you pop holes or free up the airbox lid on a 500 you will most likely cause a bunch of grief as in lean spots and the lack of vacuum will cause the vacuum carburetor to not act right . Try this ---> take the lid off comepletely and see if the bike will even limp across the yard. The mod kit on the scrambler comes with a different return spring for the slide . Also the instructions detail drilling a hole properly into the slide to get the slide to work properly with the lid modification . (correct drill bit included)
In summary I do think with a little garage time a person could make this work on your 500 sportsman . But just like on a Scrambler 500, the gains you will get are only around a horse and a half .
