Scrambler 4x4 vs 4x2
Looking at 2001-2003 Scrambler's as a second ATV (currently have a 4x4 utility ATV). What is the performance difference of 4x4 vs 4x2 as far as quickness/speed, handling and ease of steering. I don't really need the 4x4 in most places I would be riding this one, would be riden on a lot of wooded trails with little mud and forest-type roads. Anything I should watch out for on those years? I am also leaning towards the 500.
Thanks.
Thanks.

All the scramblers, whether 400cc,500cc,2 stroke,4 stroke,4x4,or 2x4.They are all close in top speed and power,of course the 2x4 are probably alittle quicker, but not a whole lot.If your looking to put mods on it,then you should get the 2stroke,because with mods on a scrammy 2 stroke,it can put out alot of freaking horsepower.Any of them you won't be dissappointed.

I had a Trailblazer, but wanted to go with 4X4 for the trails. So I got a 2002 400 4X4 Scrambler. Stock, it's pretty quick, I added an HPD trail pipe, now it's almost too quick for the trails (just right). The 4X4 allows me to back out of spots that I previously could not. Since I'm constantly adding new trails, this is a huge help! I also ride the bike on a lot of winding backroads, it really shines there in 2 wheel drive.
I guess what I'm saying is that the 400 is totally mod-able and the 4X4 doesn't really kill performance.

I have a 2 stroke 4x4 scrammy and i absolutely love it. You will prolly find yourself selling your other quad b/c these scramblers are amazing. I can go through everything the bigger boys can. It may take a little more throttle, or body langauge but it can be done. My scrambler has a jet, pipe, and different primary spring, and it is very fast. I would highly recommend the 400 4x4

I have a 500 Sportsman and a 400 Scrambler (2stroke). Both are great motors and I think you would be happy with either motor in a scrammy. If I planned on keeping it stock, I would probably get a 500 scrammy. Do a search in this forum on the scrambler and you will find alot of info.

I own a 2wd 01 Scrambler 500. I had the chance one day to ride an 02 4wd Scrambler 500, and switch back and forth. The 2wd will pull the front end up and has a little better acceleration. It steers easier too.
It's my wifes quad. She did the same thing, and prefers the 2wd (the same as me). It just seems to be more fun.
Hope that helps.

Thats true, the 4x4 will be a little harder to steer, but thats what makes the Scrambler such a great machine. Still super fast, plus you can slide a button and have real 4 wheel drive. I absolutely love this machine. I have a 02 Freedom edition 500 4x4. If I wasn't worried about 4x4, i'd prolly go with a Predator.
