K&N AIR FILTER ?

When I took off the air box and changed to a clamp on K&N filter I thought there was a noticeable difference. Nothing crazy like 5 HP but better throttle response and a little on the bottom end. If you add a pipe or other performance items then the rejet is needed. But the filter change should not make you do that. All the adjustments that you need to make can be taken care of by adjusting the air screw on the carb. That is IF you need to do even that.

Jefffoxsr noticed a big improvement on his '05 500 HO, and i could tell when we raced!
On my sp700 I didnt notice much if at all but I know it flows better abd is cleanable/reusable.
I have one on each of my 4 vehicles. And no I dont have stock in the company...but should!
Jim
ps get an Outerwears too.

Does polaris offer the K&N outerwears with a polaris number? because polaris does offer the K&N filter with a polaris number. the K&N part number is PL-1003 and through polaris the K&N filter is 2871786. the K&N prefilter or outerwear part number is PL-1003PK so the question is since polaris offers the K&N performance filter, do they also offer a K&N prefilter/outerwear?
P.S. you can order the polaris/K&N filter (part number 2871786) through www.polarisoemparts.com for $39.74
even if the filter doesn't add any more hp at least it's reusable seeings how the stock paper filters are $14.99 so really by the time you replace your stock filter two to three times you could of just had the K&N.

I would say a prefilter aka outerwear would be critical due to the fact that the outerwear catches all the large chunks of dirt and grime that would otherwise get stuck into the filter. it's easier to clean the outerwear than it is the filter and look at it this way polaris factory paper filters even have prefilters on them so they must work right? I looked at the polaris parts diagrams to find that the 700 and 800 both take different prefilters/outerwears for the filters. probably because the 800 needs more air or something so the 800 outerwear probably lets more air through it is all I can figure. I just ordered the 800 air cleaner snorkle/air duct which has a larger duct than the 700 along with the 800 exhaust headpipe with heat shields and the K&N air filter, we'll see how much more lower to mid range power the mods make when I get the parts.
