Default alky carb - Bubba

Bubba,

Got alky carb from Packard, got fuel pump from FTZ. Will start modifying fuel system. I'm going to run the alcohol in my oil reservoir, once the lines are properly sized. I'll use the main tank to flush the system. No specs - no info on carb settings. How to adjust needle and/or main jet - which way is rich - out ? or in? Where do you start? Will need info on carb tuning - and info on oil to alcohol mixture. need tuning tips!!! will it idle ? What heat range spark plugs ?

You will need a bigger tank than the oil reservoir for sure. You might want to purge the system with the oil tank. The needle should be around 49mm.The main is adjusted for the powerjet.Start with it backed all the way out, then go from there. If it is a 40mm you should start all the way out on the powerjet. If it is the 44mm you will be about a turn and a half down, from the top.Screwing the powerjet down leans the main jet.Turning the needle in richens the pilot circuit.Make sure the flat side of the needle is facing the engine.Remember you will burn twice as much alky as gas.I have been running 28 to 1 using Maxima 927 for over a year with no problems.Hope this helps.

CED is right, start with the powerjet all the way out. Do a search through Google or go to Fast by Gast website and read their tech articles on Lectrons. You can learn a lot by just taking a little bit of time to read up on them. Once you start messing with them then it just gets easier. I think most will tell you that hands on with a lectron is the best way to go. Screwing the needle in will richen the idle and part throttle, and turning it out will lean it out. Start with getting the motor to idle and respond well first, then work on WOT. Also like Ced said, The oil tank wont be enough unless your prepared to stop evry little bit and refuel. it will go fast, and extremely fast when drag racing. You dont want to run out of fuel under acceleration on alky, things tend to get damaged like that. Hope that helps, Bubba

Also I forgot..........whenever you adjust the needle on a lectron you must make sure that the flat part of the needle stays toward the motor or else it wont work correctly. Also you adjust the needle 1/4 turn at a time. Bubba
