My 2004 500 HO has 1100 miles on it now and not one problem either...This is a good all around ATV, good power, excellent ride and decent on fuel.. I would highly recommend this ATV to anyone.

2C3 quotes- " 5 torn boots, shredded belt, rear brake pedal quit working,no grease in rear hub bearings, rear gearcase was a half quart low...ect"

i have YET to shred a belt and i commercial plow BIG N/E snow EVERY storm last Winter. my 700EFI DaleJr. worked FLAWLESSLY! in fact, i've been plowing like that since '99 and never had a belt issue.

as far as low fluids this and no grease that, sounds to me that YOUR DEALER DIDN'T DO A PROPER PDI on your ATV. DAMN i hate stupid Dealers like that. those items should have been checked before delivery. IT'S NOT THE QUAD'S FAULT.

torn boots i won't comment on because i don't want to hurt your feelings.

to the guy who started this thread:
the Sportsman is a highly respected ATV and has EARNED it's excellent reputation. 4 or 5 years in a row it was named "king of the utes" for a veriety of reasons. all other ATV Mfgs have COPIED the Sportsman in some way or another to stay competitive. selectable 2/4WD, disc brakes front and rear, full floorboards, true 4X4 (not 3 1/2), composite racks, standard tow hitch, electronic fuel gauge, IRS, excellent stock tires, many color choices, BIG ground clearance, and others i can't think of right now.
buy the Sportsman. you will NOT regret it!

Only had one problem to speak of and that was a incorrect routed wire to T-Bap sesor. They fixed under warranty and no other problems. I ripped a front inner cv boot, but that was my fault and yeah I had the rubber washer melt too, went to Bomgaars and spent about .50 cents and that fixed my problem. I had way more problems with my 04 Kawasaki Prairie 700, but after the bugs got worked out I didn't have any problems with it. Like it or not most quads do have a few small problems, but I wouldn't trade my Polaris for any other quad.

I don't know how your rear gear case could be a half of a quart low when they only recommend 5oz of fluid.
my owners manual says to maintain the rear gearcase oil level even with the bottom of the fill hole. if it doesnt hold but 5 onces then that means it was dry from dealer. i just guesstimated half quart buy how the botlle felt after filling the gear case.

Gordong, I own a polaris and I ride with guys who own a mix of machines. All brands have problems but are good machines, but the one brand in my opinion that is above the rest is Honda. I can't wait to save up enough money to buy a new machine, and it going to be a Honda. Don't get me wrong Polaris makes a great machine, but Honda really has it together.

2cs, sorry to hear about your problems. Sounds like you really did get a bad machine, and a poor dealer to top it all off. A dealer should not have to order CV boots, my dealer always has plenty in stock. I agree that your problems were not your fault, just a lemon. But please don't base your whole opinion of Polaris on this whole experience. Agreed it shouldnt happen, but the combination of a lemon and a bad dealer will make any brand look bad.

The few times ive been with a polaris somthing has slipped or broken and had to be towed back. Before i get any negetive replys by these polaris lovers(which i have no problem with, this is america), the polaris atvs were well kept but out on the trail broke down. I know polaris has a rep for bad quality, and as much as polaris lovers deny it, its still what i hear and see. No offense, just stating my 7 cents.
I am not a confrontational person, so if I had really heard of polaris's not being dependable, I wouldnt argue with you. But you are saying that Polaris's are poor quality and its riders "deny it". Why would we have any reason to deny it, we can go out and buy any brand we want, why would we come back and buy another Polaris? Granted some may want to switch brands, but the majority will not.

It's kinda like the Consumer Reports thing with cars -- if American cars are really as bad as they say they are, NO ONE would buy a domestic car. Yet, they continue to sell.

The market directly reflects quality and dependability. If its good enough to own, people will buy them.

Hmmm. You must be a Kasey Kahne fan.

My wife just bought a Honda car. Hate to say it, but I'll never buy another domestic car. The big 3 are all having sales problems.

I was in San Antonio a couple weeks ago, rented a "new" Toyota with only 5,000 miles. It was noisy, the entire car shook when I stepped on the brakes, and the cruise control didn't work. A Honda motorcycle I bought new went through 3 engines in only 15,000 miles.
On the onther hand, I have a 91 Ranger 4X4 w/120,000 miles. No issues other than those caused by normal wear & tear (or me!!!). No drive train issues at all, other than a minor oil leak. I have 99 F150 4X4, no issues what so ever. The wife drives a 2000 Saturn SL w/98,000 miles and again, no issues at all. Personally, I will never buy an import.
