Default Polaris Quality?

well...lets see...

a CV joint snapped, sheared a hub off of the axle, on my 4th belt now (polaris will cover more than one belt, they've guaranteed 3 of mine), a tranny, belt cover, air intake for belt, and i had to replace the airfilter cuz the stock ones arent washable and it clogged.

so ive got over 2k of parts invested into in 9 months...

and ive only had to pay for 300$ of em, gotta love polaris customer service, just not the machine.

I dont know if it includes yours, but some had a recall involving the routing of the spark plug wire. It was sent between the gas tank and the frame and eventually wore through the insulation, shorting the system and giving no spark. I was on a 40 mile trip in the middle of nowhere, but luckily mine shorted out as I was driving through a gas station parking lot between two trails.

The dealer called the next day to warn me of the recall, a little late, but he had it fixed and back to me in under two hours.

I have a 04 500 sportsman and have replaced 2 belts,2 waterpump seals (one covered by warranty),1 cv joint, rear bearings, set of brake pads and rotor at a total cost of over 1500.00.Granted i have 3900 miles but i would not recomend anyone to buy a polaris, they are not a tough bike.mine is for sale!!!!!!

Hey, congratulations gordongl, I think that many people here would agree you made the right choice.

Went on a great ride today, made me remember why I love my sportsman. 18 miles of deep, thick, sticky mud. Took my friend who has never been on an atv before, we had a blast. I was in some nasty mud, stuck a couple times, and no problems with overheating. The IRS in the back definetly gave me the edge over my friend on my 250, that chain dragging in the mud really slowed him down.

Good luck, have some fun with that 500!

I seem to have one of those machines that everyone that hates Polaris talks about. 2004 Sportsman 600. I have had this bike for a year and only have 475 miles on it. I do a little mudding , but mostly trail ride. Lost the electric fan at 3 months, (warranty would not cover because the fan was dirty), had to replace all 4 wheel bearings at 5 months (once again not covered by warranty). At 9 months the temp sensor switch quit and the fan would not come on. I wired the fan to come on when the key does now. At the same time I have had to replace all tie rod ends. Now my water pump has quit and started leaking. As soon as I can get this back up and going my next purchase will be a "For Sale" sign
There are lemons and the polaris seems to have alot of them i have had 2 lemons a 96 sp-500 and a 2004 sp-600.
You name it and it has broken but my dealer is still supporting me in my quest for NEW parts.
Front srut went, front hubs now gone,Overheating.Engine ran out of oil no explaination.Leaking coolant to0 where i don't know? And now won't go over half throttle without cutting out.
I am pissed at polaris quality and my bikie is FOR SALE
Anyone want it its a GEM,
Hey i loved polaris but i bought this bike to last not to keep my dealer employed.

IF you click on the little camera under Mudlover600Tw you will read his FIRST 2 sentences that quite contradict his above statement: "Well this is my page. Love to ride, Mud is especially close to my heart. I have 04 Sportsman 600 .I rode a 1996 500 for years and loved it."

oh! let me repeat it: "I RODE A 1996 500 FOR YEARS AND LOVED IT!"

Yes i did love it the 500 ran but always blew off parts.I spent 6k fixin that puppy.
Just a short note took my girl in today to my best freind THE DEALER.Looks like maybe the coil stator or helix is gone. And the frame bracket that supports the lower A-ARM is wel;l howd you say f u and needs to be welded and drilled out.SO i would advise all polaris owners to check for this as well.Hey i loved polaris but i am loosing my mind with this one.The 500 i bought used and figured the guys before me pounded her bad so i bought a brand NEW 600.She is not doing well so far but not to say that it can't be fixed. So i will wait for my next ride and see. This 600 i put another 2k into to make her go faster and always lost performance or gained very little so if this was the problem from the get go i will be pleasent pleased at the results and she should just rock. The judge is still deciding anyway just GIVVER.
