Default How do I fix this?

In fariness to the seller I couldnt measue the shafts before purchase because of them being broken and he couldnt tell me for sure which one it is. I think the problem was I ordered shafts for the 2000 scrambler 400 4x4 which it states on my title but when I check the manufacturing date it says 8-12-1999 so I think it may be 1999 instead of 2000. I just got off the phone with the seller and he said those were the longest ones they make for the 2000. So it must be a 1999 model. He is checking in to this for me.

hey the neapco's are all the same. Make sure you have USA stamped on your u-joint caps. Mine was a little short too but that's because I tried to put it on when it was pushed in all the way and with the bike being on stands and the a-arm at it's max travel that means the cv-joint would need to be at it's max travel outward as well. when I put my new one on it compressed just enough to go onto the splines from the gear case just like the old one. then I pushed it all the way on to the spline hammered the pin in and then put all my goodies back in the hub and used the hub nut to bring the cv-joint into position. I rode it a little today and it seems to be just fine. There was no way I was going to be able to get that pin in with the hub nut tight.

Hoopie, the build date is more often the previous year to the model year, like cars.

My 2002 sp700 build date was 11/21/01 and my 2000 scr400 was the previous year also.
I would say yours is a 2000 model year. Check the VIN #

thanks ScramaDamaDingDong, Now I just realized I sent back the right part because I thought it wasnt long enough. I didnt think it would compress that much when installing it. Man Im an idiot. I had mine up in the air on jacks also and it had a usa stamp on it. I guess I will have to reorder them. I got my polaris manual in the mail yesterday. I skimmed threw it and that looks like it will help alot. I was afraid of putting it back together and it not working right and then screwing it up again by forcing it to fit.

He said polaris has been inconsistent on what shaft they use. 90% have a 21 inch shaft and 10% have a 20.5 inch shaft.

Check with Chicago Drive Line: www.chicagodriveline.com.

I was able to get couple of TRX front CV's with axles for less than half of what the dealer, powersportspro or bike bandit wanted.

Grab your shop manual and go for it.

Only tool I had to get was a binder tool for the CV boot covers.

I got my shafts in Friday and started reassembling. So far so good but my brakes are draggin accross the disks! Not sure who to fix this. I tried adjusting the screw that tightens the pads against the disk but it didnt do anything. THe brakes work when you squeeze them. I dont think its suppose to do this though it always has. Maybe its dirt or something. It is completely finished, now i just have to test it to make sure everything works ok. Thanks to all that has assisted me in this. You have been much help. It was a way bigger job than expected considering I didnt know anything about it all. Though I think I could do it again in a quarter of the time with the right tools. I learned alot and gave me a good reason to drink my Amberboch beer. I ended up being $300 ahead of what the dealer wanted to charge me plus I get to keep the $400 in tools i got for the project. Oh! dont laugh but I even figured out how to adjust my chain! It has never been adjusted since i got it new and it was laying on the swingarm.

Congratulations!!! It is very satisfying when you do it yourself.

The brake pads should make light contact on the disks when the brakes aren't applied. Did you make sure your hubs engage/disengage correctly when going into and out of 4wheel drive ? With all 4 wheels off the ground and the rear wheels turning, the front wheels should turn when the 4x4 button is depressed and they should freewheel when it isn't.
