What type of racing? I would start with a clutch kit with a team roller secondary and Full exhaust, all from HPD it should be around $600-650. then look into maybe the airbox mod and you will be on the right track. If you are talking about drag racing other sport quads, you should look into getting a used 2 stroke scrambler, they are very fast and can reach 90+HP. It all depends on the type of racing and how much money you want to spend. The suspension on the 04 could also be upgraded and will help with overall handling and jumping. You budget is the important factor!!

Your secondary clutch uses buttons and a helix to upshift and backshift. What a roller secondary uses is rollers and a custom helix to do the shifting. It is alot more efficient than the stock one. As for a good clutch kit, I like the HPD Aggressive Clutch Kit. You can order one from rick ritter(ritter cycle), or directly through HPD. Rick is a great guy and if you have any problems with it or questions he will take the time to answer them. If you get the roller secondary and the clutch kit at the same time you do not have to buy 2 helixes, they will credit you like 90+- dollars off the clutch kit, as the roller secondary comes with a helix for it.
As for installing them, you can do it yourself. There are basic instructions that come with the kit and I have a pic in my pictures that will give you a good Idea of what it will take to do it. It is the white picture with text and pics on it, just click on it and then print, or save for later.
