Does 04 Trailboss 10 tooth front sprocket exist?
#1
While looking through the owners manual for my 04 trailboss I came across a section talking about using a one tooth less front sprocket so the clutch will fully engage while operating at speeds below 5mph. Although I rarely run below that speed, lowering the effective gear ratio seems like a good idea since this lead sled can use all the help it can get. It curently has an 11 tooth front sprocket. The problem is that my local dealer (almost useless) and an online Polaris vender were unable to find a 10 tooth sprocket for a Trail Boss or anything else with chain drive for that matter. Does the 10 tooth sprocket exist? And if it does what is the part number?
Thanks!
Thanks!

i dont think a 10 tooth exist..if there is a 10 tooth for your machine sprocket specialists would have it,give them a call 530-533-0802..what size rear sprocket do you have,40 tooth?if you cant get a 10 you could always go with a 42 tooth rear and it will pretty much give you the same effect the 10 tooth will..

thewayout420 Thanks for the reply. Yes the rear sprocket is a 40 tooth. I would rather not go any bigger on the rear sprocket as this would make it more easily damaged from rocks ect. I will give Sprocket Specialists a call. I will probably also give Rick Ridder a call Monday and order a Stage one Kit for this thing since I think I have decided to keep it. The Trailboss rides like a luxocruiser compared other machines in it's price range which is why I bought it. But it is just to heavy.

Mcavs,
You wont be able to find a 10t sprocket. Some of the boss's had 12 and 13t but they pretty much went down as far as they can go with the front. If you really want a great performance upgrade then change the Primary spring to an EPI pink or maroon. It will have the same engagement but pulld much harder in mid to top end. I gained a 7mph on the top and 800rpm's on top. Also get yourself a K&N filter. With this spring it is truely a night and day difference. Also make sure your secondary is set at the 2-2 position. It wont be a slug anymore trust me. Mine is now faster than my father inlaws 400sp.

2manytoys thanks for the reply.
I guess I'll order the Stage 1 kit from Rick Ridder because it appears to be a 1 stop soultion with most of the mods you suggest. I have noticed many people swear buy this kit. I have yet to hear of anybody swearing at it. I,m also going to put this thing on a diet. I'm going to pitch the front rear racks and weld up a new front nerf type front bumper out of 3/4 crome molly tube or something. If it had a true kick start I would loose the starter and battery as well. Any other wieght loss suggestions would be helpful.
P.S. I'm 6' tall and only 165lbs so "I" don't need the diet, the trailboss does.

Yes the stage 1 kit would be the way to go . If you want to lose more weight then get aluminum wheels. This is alot of weight lost. If you take the racks off you will find out that they really are not that heavy but I guess every little bit counts.
