Default Discretionary $$$

Just got $200.......I call it discretionary $$$ because wifey doesn't know about it and therefore it's at my discretion to spend it on a clutch kit.

The question is: Do I get a primary clutch kit (the Heelclicker is the one I have in mind)......OR.......do I get a secondary unit (TEAM Roller is the one I have in mind)? Can I run a TEAM Roller with the stock primary.....or does it really only come alive if you run it in combination with a primary clutch kit.

I ride trails of all kinds including hills.....some mud bogs but not a whole lot. I have stock tires/wheels and although I will get aftermarket ones at some point I'm not going to go above 26".

I've only a 400 and I'm looking for gains in acceleration......top speed is currently 52/53 and that is just fine.

If you are eventually going with bigger tires then go with a primary kit. This is what will get the tires spinning. You can adjust the secondary do do anything you want. The rollar secondary is good for quicker, smoother acceleration for racing or speed. On my 330 I changed the primary spring to a EPI pink primary and gained 7mph on top and 800 rpm's. Went from 45mph to 52mph easily. Better than any pipe would give me. I can smoke my father inlaws sp400 but before the spring change he would easily beat me. If you just want a performance change then save the $$ and get a Primary spring. I highly rec the pink. I have tried all kinds of springs and i think this is a great one.

I'd go with the primary first then when you find some more money decide if you need the secondary

2many do you know the rate of the epi pink spring? I know both of those machines make peak hp at about 6000 rpm. But i do believe the 400 comes with different weights. I do agree that for the $ a primary spring change will make a big differance but other cluthcing mods will help on top of that. If I were going to change jsut a primary spring on my 400 sportsman I would run a spring witha rate close to 40-140 this should work pretty good it's a very popular rate in most of the polaris 4-stroke quads.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

By you running a big UTE machine and not a sport ride I would go with the HeelClicker kit to get what power you do have to the ground better.
