i have a 97 explorer 400 thats been trail ported and polished, bored 20 over, added boyensen power reeds. are there any pipes that will give me a a fair amount more horsepower that fit this bike? i've also added a prinary and secondary stock clutch kit. will i have to do a full blown clutch kit if i add a pipe?

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

With the bike you have I would go with either an Aaen Torquer pipe (I ran this pipe on a 96 400 Sportsman and it was great but had to be clutched to the pipe) or the Dynoport pipe that is made to run with stock clutching.Dont let anyone BS you this is a HOT pipe I have one on a 400 Scrambler and it screams. The Dynoport is mainly a low/mid pipe but has huge gains on the top too. http://www.dynoport.com/ THe Hotseat that Speedyguy sells is ok but if it is like the HSP I had it is a lot louder than the rest.

I had a 1997 Explorer 400 until recently. I sold it with 7400 miles on the odomoter. I purchased a Dynaport pipe for it. This pipe is marginally louder than the stock pipe. It takes an hour or so to install but uses all the stock hardware. It delivers better top end and slightly better fuel economy. On a section of newly paved road I saw the needle creep past 60 mph and up to what I figured was the equivalent of 68 mph. What the means in terms of actual speed is any mans guess but it's quicker and faster than most out there. The pipe is a one piece affair with silencer attached.(by the way, it is still in my garage collecting dust. If your have an interest, get back to me )

hot seat have a good pipe for the old explorer 400 since a few years
back then, the silencer is welded and fitted to the pipe so you won't need
to get a can then, the power gains is an absolute 10 hp,those are not the same jugs as the srammy 400 and do respond even better to mods...
