Default 96 SP 500 voltage/resistance #'s

My 96 Sportsman 500 just quit running on me after taking a small hill. Seems to be getting gas (good smell) comes out of the filter well...dind't check the carb. Pulled the plug and no fire but it backfires every now and then when I'm trying to start it? Doesn't it need spark to backfire? Checked all the wiring and connections. Checked the ETC. Have a guy coming over tomorrow nite to throw on a voltmeter. I have a 2001 trailboss manual but I'm not sure if the numbers and wiring diagrams are the same? Looks the same? Does anyone by chance have the voltage and resistance #'s for the majopr components? ie...cdi (exciter and pulse coil), coil ground, plug wire, primary coil ground, or anything else you can think of. I put a new plug in but didn't check the gap?? .032 - .036?

thx
