I have a 2000 scrambler 500 4x4 and i was checking the oil today and noticed it was a little runny so i decided to smell it. It smelled strongly of gasoline. I know this is bad but just how bad is it and what could be causing it. If it is really a big problem im gonna trade it in for something else before it really craps out.

You probably have a piece of dirt stuck in your needle and seat valve in your carburetor. The seat being held open leaks gas from the float bowl though the carburetor and down the intake past one of the open intake valves and past the piston rings, filling your crankcase with gas.
What I would do is take the carburetor apart and make sure the floats work properly and replace the needle and seat. Also try to get in the habit of turning off the gas when you are done for the day.
As long as you have not run it to long with the gas and oil mix you should be alright, but a compression check might not be a bad idea!
