Which carb was that?

The carb that is on the 400 2 stroke is a 34mm mikuni. The 250 has a 30mm Mikuni. You do not want to put a 34mm on a stock 250 machine and even with mods it is hard to tune. You will have a dead spot at take off and it is hard to fix. You are better off sending your stock carb into Rick and have him bore it out then rejet. This way you wont lose performance or reliability. A bigger carb will make very little difference in performance unless you have a ton of mods. I built a bad *** 250 and have done all the mistakes to try to save money and it cost me more in the long run. Start with a good pipe and clutch kit with K&N filter. Then do some port work and mill the head. This is the most reliable way to go and you get the most power from these mods. The biggest gain you will get is the pipe and then port work. The pipe will add about 8hp. The portwork will add about 6-8hp. A carb will add about1-2hp. If you get a pipe, portwork, head milled, K&N filter, clutch work and flywheel lightened you will be up with the 400's. The mods are endless. HPD has a reed conversion racemod that will beat 400's and AAEN has a stage 5 kit that smokes 400's and thats what I had. If you want to beat 400's then plan on spending some cash. These 250's can be built to beat Banshees but its not cheap. And why would somebody want to mod a 250 to beat a Banshee? Because you can and its a great feeling to beat a350cc twin with a 250 single.
