Engine oil for 05 Predator
#2
alot of people say that you should stay with the factory oil. well, polaris doesn't make oil they make quads, sleds, and watercraft. it's the same with harley davidson, they say you have to use their oil in harley motorcycles but they aren't the ones making the oil. if a company says you have to use their oil in order to make your warrenty good then they have to provide you with the oil free of charge. i use amsoil 0-40 four stroke oil in mine. you will have to do your homework on this one and you'll get alot of opinions about what's good and what's not. use what makes you feel comforatable. the ps-4 polaris oil is a 0-40 weight wet-clutch compatible synthetic. whatever you get make sure it's wet clutch compatible. in other words made for clutched motorcycle transmisssions. hope this helps

I used the PS4 for my first 2 oil changes. I have since switched to Mobil 1 for SUV's and diesels. It is 0w-40W and no friction modifiers. I can pick this oil up at Wal-Mart cheap on the gallon size.

Thanks everyone. I think I will use the PS-4 at first then switch to the Mobil 1 0w-40w later.
Davesp, Do you know how much each cost? I forgot to look when I was at the dealership.
Thanks again all.

I know I am going to get beat up for admitting this but I used regular 10w 40 motor oil for the first 2 oil changes just to make sure the engine was properly “broken in”. From what I hear, the PS4 stuff is full synthetic. After that, I switched to Mobil 1. Funny thing is I could shift better with conventional oil vs. the PS4.

I would definitely run synthetic. But, I think any brand name in the proper weight will be fine. However, the key is frequent oil changes. Our machines only use 2 quarts +/- per change, so it isn't all that expensive for piece of mind. Then again, I am **** and change my oil in my S2000 every 2000 miles.
