Default 700 Plastic melting with 800 header

I noticed today that my 700 plastic is melting right where the heat sheilds are on the header. I've had a few people ask me about having any melting and I didn't have any till today. I have had the 800 header on the 700 for about 5 months and I guess the summer heat has made it a little hotter and made it melt the plastic. I have heard of some the 800's having melting problem what are you guy doing to help fix it?

I bought some "heat tape at home depo, looks lie a roll of duct tape, shiney on one side and paper backing on the other, seems to work pretty good for most things. How do you like your Team Roller Clutch? Ive got an 03 700 and was thinking about trying one. Where do you get one and how much are they? I also have a 97 425 non EBS will the roller clutch work on it?

I think I will try some more heat tape and I'm also going to make a bracket that will hold the plastic further away from the header. The team roller is great and mine came from Hot Seat Performance and I think they are around $369.00. It gives you excellent upshifting & backshifting. I don't think the non EBS will work on the 700 but I'm not for sure.

If its producing the 700+ degrees that the 800 does heat tape will do one thing.....melt. I have mine ceramic coated and header wrapped. At 700 degrees heat tape is as good as paper.

I made some brackets today that holds the plastic away from the header. I will try to post some pics soon.

I got some pics up of the brackets I made to keep the plastic away from the header. Click here & look at the melted plastic pics. Maybe this will give people some ideals about making something to hold the plastic away from the header.
