I've just received a green spring and a white spring from Rick Ritter. He said try 'em both.
White may be better for a stock Sportsman, Green may be better with the cam & carb ala H.O.
Whatever is left over can go in the 325 Mag.
I'm riding tomorrow but don't think I can get it in tonight. I guess I'll start with the green
'cause that's what all the fuss is about.
I'll let you know if anything happens.

OK I just put the Green Spring in my 2000 SP500.
It was fairly easy. Is it possible to get the clutch cover off without removing the Floorboard?
I left it attached to the front fender. It took about an hour. I can probably do it in half that time next time....And took it for a ride.
Well it definitely "kicks in", like you are
dropping the clutch, and takes off rather smartly.
I tried it in low range and even loaded it on the trailer without any unpleasant or sudden bursts,
so it is controllable. Whether it has any effect once you are moving I don't know. I'm going for a big ride tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes.
The white spring may be a better compromise.
The stock blue spring is about 3/4 in shorter than the green spring, the white spring is about a quarter of an inch shorter than the green spring.
I'll let you know...Silly Later,,,,Fourlix

How do you contact Rick, (don't know the last name)? Where else can I get a green spring?

Call Ritter Cycle at 618-644-3211.
I tried both the white and green on my Xplorer. For my uses, I preferred the white. Performance results can be seen in my post Xplorer Xpeeiment.

Ok I tried the green spring, and other than the delayed, drop the clutch take-off I really didn't see any difference, especially where I was looking for it. Going up these mountain sand washes I can only go 40 mph. Going down I can hit 50. The elevation change and the slight grade and friction from the loose sand, bog the engine
down enough where the clutch is already in high-
but the engine isn't. The weights have been changed once, it helped. I think I'll try the white spring and lighten the weights by 2 grams.
I also think the green spring could be a problem if you were doing a very delicate manuever
like trying to turn around on the top of a rock or something. It makes using low range mandatory for anything slow, which is a good idea anyway, but the green spring, though fun in a hot rod kinda way, lacks versatility.

So I shouldn't get a different spring for my clutch since it only gives better take off? I figured it might help give more power overall, like if I add bigger tires or something.I really wish Highlifter would make a lower gear set for my 335, and other quads for that matter.

IT's THE WHITE SPRING for a SPORTSMAN!! and maybe for all the 4-strokes. It kicks in, but smoother and at a lower rpm than the green spring, which I just took out. I just gave it a quick test ride and won't get a chance to take it up a test wash for the 40+ mph torque test, but take off is strong yet controllable. I did not change weights.
Also, I did not have to remove the floorboard.
Just took out the 4 bolts where the floorboard
attaches to the frame, leave it attached to the fenders, and swing it out to remove the clutch cover. I think I'll leave the weights as they are
and go for the cam, then the carb and manifold.

Fourlix,
My findings were differant than yours. You stated the stock blue spring is about 3/4 inch smaller than the green, and the white spring was 1/4 inch smaller than the green.

Are you sure? Both my white and green spring are identical in lenghth. They are only 1/4 inch longer than the stock blue spring.

I certainly seem more excited about the performance differances to.It is probably the differance in the 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines though.======Bill

Bill,
I have a 00 Xplorer and the green spring that I received for it was at least 3/4 of an inch longer than the stock blue one. I really do like the extra take off but I have not had a chance to take it out on a good trail ride since I installed it. I don't get into very many slow crawl situations. Mostly up and down twisty through the woods and mud. I have not had the chance to get used to the higher engagement yet. I was wondering if I installed the rest of a clutch kit (weights and helix) if it would bring the engagement down a little. Or what messing with the secondary spring would do. I may end up ordering a white spring just so I can see what it feels like. I'm really new at mods and would like to figure out this PVT. I guess I need to do some good research.
