I know at first glance this sounds ridiculous, but I would think it's closer than the title would suggest. The Sportsman weighs in at 765lbs. dry and I think Polaris should have been a little more truthful about their displacement as it's really only 760cc. Regardless, in a drag race, stock for stock, throttle punched at the same time, who wins?

the 800 is faster, its even faster to 20 and 30 mph than the BF, documented in magazines...if you want to believe them.

The clutching has a lot to do with it.

Jim

Ps. Yamas 450 is a 421cc...the sportsman 400 is actually a 425cc, so polaris is ripping themselves off i guess, or making up for the 800...whatever.

This is a 40cc difference. Maybe it's just me, but I think that's significant.

Regardless its only 10 cc more than a BF and weights about 160 lbs more but can still out accelerate it down low, very close to about 40mph.

Oh no, I'm not arguing that it can stay with a Brute Force to an extent, I was just referring to the displacement comment.

I understand to some that may be a big deal.

All sportsmans are named an even hundred, 400(425), 500(499), 600(595), 700(683), 800(760). If they were to call it a 750 or 760 the 400 should be a 425 etc.

I wish it was closer to 800 cc but its not that big a deal to me.

Heres an article straight from the May issue of ATV Acion:

"In our drag races the Polaris smoked the Suzuki time and time again. Both of these quads leap off the line like sport quads and accelerate like muscle cars, but the Sportsman is unmistakably the quicker of the two. Considering the Polaris is a good 150 pounds heavier than the Suzuki, the power of the Sportsmen's American made Liberty engine is putting out is absolutely staggering. The drag race time charts shows hom much quicker the Polaris is in the 100 yard dash."

100 YARD DRAG RACE TIMES

SPORTSMAM 800EFI......6.20sec
KING QUAD 700............6.46SEC

At the speed the quads are at at the end of the 100 yards (40mph? complete guess) that must be maybe 2-3 quad lengths?

Mine has been faster right up untill 340 miles which left it unrideable and at the dealer for a week now. I'm losing brand loyalty by the min. 600lbs and a lot less money with efi= Maybe the zook was the way to go.
