Default Sportsman 800 EFI vs. KingQuad 700 EFI

A few of my friends have the 800 and the only problem they have had was the melting plastic around the AWD sticker on the right side of the ATV when sitting on it. The 800 is a very reliable ATV, I hear VERY few complaints with it. Thats damn good for a first year production bike! Not to bash, but the BF had bad tie rods (one magazine had them fail while they were testing it), and the King has the reverse gear to worry with. The Polaris is the more reliable of the two as a whole. Bionic what problems are you haveing? Bad customer care doesn't make the machine run bad. Polaris will fix anything wrong with the machine as long as it was not abused, or highly modified from stock. You can't get much better than that. I've had work done on my Polaris and Polaris customer care was the last thing I had problems with, now my dealer is a different story. Polaris customer care is only as good as your dealer, because Polaris only knows what the dealer tells them. I'm almost sure your problem lies in your dealer not Polaris. Good luck at any rate!

The reverse issue on the King is a dead issue, water under the bridge.

It maybe, but it was still a issue with a first year production bike. If it makes you feel better Polaris had a big problem with the 2002 700Twin, the water pump leaked on almost everyone sold...

Did I miss something? It didn't sound to me as if BeltDrive was being nasty. It sounded like he was being empathetic.

I understand your frustration, but don't take it out on the people here...
I second that.

I can understand your fustration but all manufactures have ther problems and produce a few lemons.
AND Dealers suck!!!!

Hows that?

Was it never a problem or what was the fix?

O.K. here goes I bought my 800 May 21st . Within 100 miles I had two rides where I had a flat in each front tire. They were exactly5/8" from the rim edge which protrudes out with a 90 degree flaw in design. The rear rack bolts had vibrated out and my tools in the new "tool box" looked like they had been found on the Titanic from the water&dirt that flows in freely through the cheap top lid no doubt made in China. I stopped by my dealer and he said the other 800 he sold was having the same problems. My last ride a week and a half ago left me stranded on the side of a mountain 30 miles from my house with a rear flat EXACTLEY 5/8" from the rim. 3-flats Wow just like a reply on this topic. Are yours all 5/8" from the rim? Other forums 800's are having the same prob with the new rim. I believe you will not see this design on the 06' This will absolutely confirm the defect because these are the best looking wheels to date. Some Arctic Cats found me and helped me out. Now with three tires plugged I raced for home. The rear plugs failed and I barely made it to a store where I had to buy another tire plug kit and can of fix-a flat. On my way the header bolt nut decided to vibrate off and now I have oil around the head gasket.
6-weeks 340miles
Now If you have ever read any of my posts and repies, you know I am a vocal Polaris, buy American supporter. I would argue to the defect all machines have, especially first year runs. I knew this buying it but knew Polaris would repair any defects in workmanship. This would only cost me time and a trip to the dealer should anything arise.(So I thought)
Now, here begins my results with the 6 week old,$9135.00 Polaris upon return to the dealer.
My dealer looked at the box and you could see light between the seams where the top cap meets the box.He agreed this was not acceptable nor practical for any storage. Puddles introduce muddy water into the tools. He will call Pol.
The rear rack and header pipe falling apart. he said they would repair it.
The tires-I thought at first that it was the new PXT. I now know it's the rim. The owner said he could not believe it was a defect and my salesman said "No, I'm going to have to agree with him ,the punctures are all exactly the same dist. from the new style rim rdge. They will call Pol.
4 days later-Icalled them(they never have called me to update things which was unprofessional and surprised me)They had talked to Polaris tec.( and they did not dissagree ,that the rims were flawed or that the rear box was cheap and unacceptable.) They did not dispute this.
What they told me was............Are you ready for this?............................................. .................................................. .................................................. ................................."THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WANT TO SET THE PRECIDENT FOR FUTURE REPAIRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ................If you are a new owner, mull that line over in your head.
Now, If this does not disgust or at the very least concern you, stop reading now and get to a doctor. have them check for blood flow to the brain.
I said this is unacceptable and called cust. sevice where I talked to Jeff who was trained well at the art of pleasantry while remaining useless. I't was like talking to a roll of toilet paper. He said a supervisor would call me Mon. morn. I am on Vacation this week and waited all day for the call that never came. My dealer did not call either so I called them.Nothing. they said they could do nothing because of Pol.
The next day at12:37 I recieved a call from Minn. Polaris 763 542 0500, A newer even more pleasant useless roll of Pol TP, proceeded to blame my dealer because his computer said there was no defect. I told him Maine law superceedes any and all express or implied warranties and my manual said Pol. warr. all components from defects in material or workmanship. Your state may have the same laws to protect you.Go to (your state).Gov and go to Laws ,type warranty Law and do a search. I got abig zero out of him as well.
Back to my dealer. I'll blame them they blame me. I'ts a good game they have perfected, but to anyone not just off the truck it's an obvious runaround.
I am paying for new tires and rims today and they are taking some off while keeping the alum rims i paid $150.00 to "upgrade" to because the camo did not come with them.
If they had been a solid company and said 'we know this is an issue and we are working to resolve it' or even' we know this is a serious shortcoming please accept this credit or certificate" I would have accepted that and continued to support Polaris. But to ignore me after 11 Pol. purchases, not because I was incorrect ,but because they are avoiding the responsible thing to do.
" We don't want to set a precident"...............They are nothing without us. They have absolutely lost a dedicated customer. I apologize to anyone I have helped convince to make a Pol. purchase. I was mistaken. I was also mistaken in paying more to a dealer you belive in. When the chips are down their all used car salesman. If you are to buy one, take the lowest price and bring it to whomever for warr work. Sorry Belt dr. , my anger was peaking yesterday. I would prob have posted the same thing . It's different when it's your 9 grand and machine falling apart. As the 05's get some miles on this year I think you will see more anger and if the 06 is changed regarding these flaws their failure will be more evident. I have spent some time in trying to help the sale of Pol. 11 of my friends bent on buying a Japanese model were led to Pol by me where they all made new purchases.I have never been this disgusted in 21 years of riding with any product or company. Forgive me but I wil have to warn potntial buyers of my dealings with Pol. I owe them that. I am not sure which brand to go to now.
I,probably like yourself, could not believe that people were being treated so bad and having the problems that they were describing in such detail without a complete support from Polaris. Think about it being you. I never thought I'd be in this position.

Bionic,

That is really a shame, I know if it was me that put that kind of money on a machine, I would be EXTREMELY pissed. I wish I had the money to start my own atv shop, because I would build it on customer service. All these companies are nothing without us, maybe it is time we organized and took out full page adds in newspapers to warn people of all these company's with horse**** customer service. I am going with Arctic Cat on my next machine, not because they are flawless, but because there seems to be less of this bull**** going on with them. Plus they offer a 3 year warranty on there 06 atv's instead of 6 months. Who do you think has more confidence in there product, the one who gives you a 6 month warranty or the one that offers 3 years. Polaris5610 said your warranty is only as good as your dealer, well if that is the case Polaris should sit down and have a talk with all these dealers and tell them to get with the program. I have a hard time believing it is the dealers though, because they get paid good to do all the warranty work, the only work they do not get paid for is the ones polaris it self says no to.

Good Luck to you Bionic, hope all goes well

Bionic, I wasn't trying to be smart about your problems with your new 800. I hate to see anyone not happy with thier new quad. You have spent alot of money and you have the right to be angry. I have not been in the situation your in. I bet if you do a search in all the brand forums you will find someone in each one that feels the way you do right now. I can remember back in 2002 when I was looking for a new 4x4 quad and was looking thru the different forums trying to decide on what quad I wanted. At the time I owned a yamaha warrior and many yamaha dirt bikes thru the years. So I was thinking I wanted a grizzly. I can remember alot of people on the yamaha forum here or over at high lifter talking about how bad yamaha's customer sevice was. Thats why I think they all at times have bad customer sevice. I thought Polaris was better then that but I guess not. I hope things work out for you Bionic.

That REALLY sucks!
I hate to hear that sheet Bionic. You deserve some satisfaction after spending that much money and buying their products over the years.

First and foremost you need to get a different dealer, they are not standing behind you and are the cause of your problems. This is why Pol is most likely not honoring your repairs. The dealer probably told them its excessive abuse.
The rack is a dealer installed thing and their problem, same for the storage box IMO.

I don’t think you can fault Pol for putting on some of the best stock tires and wheels on a production quad.
If you were to buy Japanese you would have needed to replace the tires and most likely the wheels before ever riding with the cheep lightweight crap they put on.
