Blown engine Predator 500 issues
#1
I have a 2003 Polaris Predator 500 and had taken it to the dealer because I was having a problem starting the quad. The dealer had the bike for over three weeks and came back with a diagnosis of a dirty carb. I told them to clean it up and do an oil change at the same time. They called me back and said that sand had gotten into the motor and would have to be rebuilt. After waiting for Polaris's backordered valves for an additional month I got the quad back w/ new top end valves, piston, foam air filter.
After getting the quad back I took a trip to St. Anthony sand dunes in Idaho. The quad would not get out of its own way. It had 20% of the power it had BEFORE I had the motor rebuilt. It would not even hold an idle. It would sound fine and then just quit.
I called the dealer from Idaho and described the problem. They said that if it was a problem that they caused they would cover the costs. The dealer in Idaho got the bike back to me within 3 days saying that they replaced two needle jets. (if someone has the stock part # please send to me) I brought the bike back to the sand & it had about 65% power of its power.(we had the bike in Idaho last year without rejetting and it climbed everything, this time a honda 400ex would beat it easily).
After getting back to San Diego I took the bike into the dealer. They had the bike for a week and just called me and said there is nothing wrong with the bike. The mechanic said that they took the bike to the dirt field next door and it did wheelies in every gear?? I know that once under a load the motor will substandard from stock. Does anybody know of a bike mechanic w/ a dyno that could prove that this motor has problems underload? Any advice would be appreciative?
I was very happy with the bike before it sucked some sand and just want to get back to the power it had before they rebuild the motor. If the dealer does not get this resolved I will be posting some bad advertising to everyone I know.

I would probably recomend another dealer, most carbs only have one needle jet in them, yours is no exception, needle part# 3131484, emulsion tube part #3131496. How did the sand get in??? Did they do ANYTHING with the cylinder lining?? Remember, when it's rebuilt, u should treat it like a new engine till it breaks in, it will be down on power till the rings seat to the cylinder.

The dealer in Idaho had these part # listed on reciept.
3610089 seal-lip
5412220 0-ring
3514393 bearing cone taper s32008x
3514394 bearing-cup taper y32008x
This bike has had 4 rides on it. I would think the rings had seated? If you have an idea of what these part #'s are please let me know. Thanks

I would say lot of your problem here is at 5000' above sea level it will kill your hp anyways!! I know that when my buddies went to dumont from here they said there bikes ran 100% better at sea level!! I would say your jetting was off tell me what mods you have and what jets you had in and I can give ya an idea if you was out of tune!!

Looks like the dealer in idaho worked on you rear axle berings from the part list. I could be worng but dosen't sound like carb parts.

I ran the quad up in Idaho last year without rejetting and it was fine. This year we changed the jet from a 150 main(stock) to a 147.5 and it didn't help. This is when we took it into Rexburg Motorsports. They told me they replaced the needle jet. No parts for this were listed. They did mention that the rear axle bearings were needing to be replaced. This must be the part #'s for this.
I picked up the bike from the dealer today and it listed that the oil level was high. The technician said that it pulled the front wheels off the ground in every gear therefore nothing is wrong. It runs fine on flat ground, it is when you climb a hill under load where it really struggles.
I'm going to Glamis for a night run this weekend and will see what it does on hills that we have been running for years. I'm bringing the Banshee for back up.
