K&N Filter question
you dont want to use a pre filter with a k&n. it just slows the air flow. when the filter gets dirty use the k&n air filter cleaner to clean it and when it dries put the k&n air filter oil on it. when you buy the filter it already has the oil on it and that is what stops the dirt from getting through.

K&N Filter question
In dusty situations, the pre-filters are a good idea and they're so open they really don't affect air flow. They trap the larger particles that could really clog a filter. The advantage is you can clean them in a sink or anywhere without re-oiling so you can go longer between cleaning intervals.
I have K&Ns on all my vehicles (87 Silverado, 05 Corolla, 72 Chevelle) and have a recharging kit as well.
Funny misconception I've only found here is that some people think you only get one use out of the recharging kit.
