Default water in belt

if anybody can help me i would really be thankful. i have a 1999 polaris scrambler 500 4x4 and i love to mud and go through some pretty hairy stuff. but it seems like every dang time i hit a pudle i've gotta stop and let the clutch dry off because it got wet. is there some way to prevent this. i noticed there is a breather right in front of the tire, maybe its splashing up in there?? can i block it off with duck tape or something just for a little bit so i can have some fun. there is another breather by the air box were water usually dont go. ive only had the belt cover on right with the gasket, whats the problem im going to the track this weekend and im gunna bog it again like always but dont want to sit half of the day letting it dry off PLEASE HELP

You could have a bad clutch cover gasket and is letting water in. I have heard of people filling the clutch cover up with water and then look for the leak. What ever you do don't cover your breather vent it will cause the clutch to over heat.

It should have a red drain plug in the back down next to the bottom on the clutch cover.

Hey man i have been having the same problombs untill i seen some other posts on this site. I have a 2000 scrambler 500 4x4 also. Try taking the clutch cover off and inspecting it from the outside and the inside for cracks. some cracks may not be noticable. Once its off u can put water in the shell/clutch cover and look for the crack where its leaking. without water works to. The cover usualy cracks from shredding a belt up in there. That is most likely your problomb. Any more questions i would be glad to awnser or that sportman 700 dude looks like he knows what he's talking about pretty good to.
