1996 425 mag 4x4: for about a month i have had some trouble with the atv cutting out at after about 3000 rpm. here is what i did: new carb, new air filter, new fuel pump, new fuel filter,3 new plugs, disconected the speed limiter, new coil, wire, boot, cam is ok' now is it the stator or cdi, my stater ingintion testing spec....OHM resistance exiter (red to green) suppost to be3.2 ohm .. test showed low maybe (0ohm)....exciter (black/red to red), 375ohm should be 425 (+/- 20% @ 68 deg F).... pulser (trigger) (white/red to white) tested 95 ohm (looks good to me) should be 97ohm (+/_ 20%).....lighting (yellow to yellow/red) should be .17ohm reading maybe 0ohm again..... lighting (yellow to yellow/brown) should be .17ohm showed (0ohm) and secondary coil 6.0 K ohm... ( the atv shops here said they are backed up for 3 months thats why i am working on it, besides i'm going fishing this weekend and its my wheel chair)

Well, this is probably not the answer you want, but I would do the CDI first. My reasoning is 3 fold... first, because the CDI is cheaper ($219 compared to the stator at $309 or whole assembly for $359). Second, it's a lot easier/quicker to replace the CDI than the stator. Lastly, because it acts up only above 3000 RPMS, I am going to arbitrarily assign that to the 'brain' portion of the CDI which controls ignition advance.
I loved my '96 Magnum until it did the same thing. Sold it before I could swap out the CDI or stator (since it was intermitent).
Good luck. Let me know what fixes it.

I think it's your stator. I have an artic cat sled that was doing the same thing. It would rev up to about 2500 rpm's and that was as high as it would go. replaced the stator and now she runs great.
