Default 250 CC REED VALVES

I saw on eBay an ATV dealer advertised a reed valve for a 87 thru 93 250 cc trail boss 4x4. I have a 88 250cc trail boss 4x4, and as far as I can tell it has no reed valve. I just replaced the carb and I looked for the reed valve and I could not find one. Is it supposed to have a reed valve? You may remember a couple months back I posted numerous times trying to get a carb I bought on ebay to work right and it never did. I finally found out it was a 28mm carb and not a 30mm that I needed. It was misrepresented and the guy refunded my money. I bought a 30mm and it runs like new. I just wondered about the reed valve, from what I understand about 2 strokes some have a 3rd port instead of a reed valve. Am I right?

Polaris 250s are considered piston port motors. The piston blocks the intake and exhaust as needed for that particular stroke. No reeds needed. If you were to radically change the port timing or the stroke you could throw off the port openings and closings. A couple companies offer a reed conversion for the 250, I would assume they have changed the porting or stroke to make it necissary.

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I thought, I have found that some of the products on eBay are misrepresented so they will bring a higher bid.
