The dealer BS was killing me. So I bought a used one this morning. The 500 EFI announcement was the breaking point. I need one real bad for some upcoming hunts and thought I could always dump this one when the new ones are readily available. Used Sportsmans seem to sell in about 5 minutes in AZ.
Anything I should look out for on a 2000? What upgrades/ aftermarkets do you recommend?
Thanks

I was in the same boat you were/are, very limited ATV for sale west of the Rockies.
I bought a used 2000 Sportman 500 (110 hours) and can think of nothing it needs when compared to my 2005 (400). The 400 rides a little better (when going very fast), and the front trunk is great, but they both are close enough that I'd ride either. I'd just look for lower hours hours, and service history. Checking for rust at frame joints, will give you and idea as to how well it was taken care of (maybe not as big of tip-off in AZ compared to rainy Pacific N.W.)
Have fun, and safe riding.
