Default 700 Sportsman and a 800 header

HI
who has put a 800 header on a 700? Did it make a difference and did you have to re-jet? Did it fit right in place? and did you use the stock muffler?
Thanks

I have. I did several other mods concurrent with the install, so I can't say how much it contributed to the power increase. I haven't rejetted yet, but I'm pretty sure it needs it, but may have to do moreso because of the aftermarket silencer and the larger air intake from the 800. I didn't reuse the stock muffler, but there are several here that have.

Oleman, how does your fmf muffler sound with the 800 header?

I put a header on and I did rejet because I had other mods I done also. I felt some more power down low and I also used the stock muffler till yesterday. I installed a White Bros. muffler and love it.

It's little louder than I care for, but it's not near as bad as some I've heard. I'm not into noise, just better performance. I'm not sure how it compares to the Pure Polaris, but it has internal baffling and no core to replace.

SP70003, did you pick up any power over your modded stock muffler?

Yes I gain some power down low and in midrange over my modded muffler. What I like about the White Bros. is that is adjustable. When I got it it had all 12 disc in it I tried it and it was to loud and I lost bottom end and midrange. So I played with it and now I'm at 6 dics and it runs great. Its just a little louder than I would like going down the road but at idle it sounds great.

does the 800 header bolt right on or do you have to make some mods?

Yes, it's pretty much a bolt on operation. It's a little shorter then the stock pipe and you may have to slot your stock muffler for fitment. I had no issues with an aftermarket silencer. A small section of plastic on the floorboard was slightly trimmed for added clearance. You will get rid of the little rubber snubber setup that is attached to the frame.

If you're going to instal these headers on older bikes, make sure u have them coated for heat protection purposes. The 700efi silencer has all the flow u need, without the added noise.
