Noob w a couple of questions

HI, I just found you guys. I'm looking at a Trailblazer that my sister-in-law has. She got it when her and her husband seperated. I'm new to the ATV world. Rode ATV's a couple of times. I Ride a Harley.
It runs for awhile and then dies. I haven't witnessed this yet. Just what she tells me. I was figuring bad gas, cause I know it has sat for awhile... Or maybe the carb/s? I am mechanically inclined, so am not intimidated by working on it. Hell, I just did the trans mainshaft seal on the Fat Boy... FUN! Not sure of the year, forgot to ask. Its yellow seat with white plastic if that helps... I didn't realize it was an automatic trans. are they reliable pros/cons. I've always ridden one with manual shifting. And, what would this critter be worth?? Thanks for replise in advance!!!

I think we will need more specifics. My guess is it is a 98 400 two stroke. Check the tro cycle oil and make sure the tank is full and it is using the oil and the tank or lines aren't plugged. Also make sure it is full of coolant. After all the basics are covered test ride it untillit quits. Pull the plug and see if you have stark. See if the float bowl has run dry. Yes it is a cvt auto. They hold up well. I love mine! Good luck.

Welcome to the forums and i am not sure what year it is but i would guess between 98-2001 and its a 250cc twostroke autos are ok not as fun as manuals I would drain the gas and the oil put fresh in you should also make sure the oil pump is working. Clean the carb check the air filter also grease all the grease points and if you really want to get into it you should check all the bearings and repack with grease or replace them. Also check the brakes over and make sure you get a manual because your going to need it.

Thanks for the advice! I'm gonna try to hook up with her later this week and check it out real good. I found several on ebay just like it 99-01's from a high of 1500 or so to a low of 800... We'll see what pans out. Is ther a decent online source for a manual (owners and shop) I don't recall any POlaris shops close to me....

Also, what is out there as far as add-ons. Is there a tech site for tuning the carb for optimal performance, hell for performace in general for this critter? I have seen some things on the "clutch" weights or something. As I said I'm new to this stuff, but a willing student!
