Sportsman starters

Default Sportsman starters

I do alot of creek crossings on a regular ride with friends. I've already replaced one starter on my 03 Sportsman 500 and now I'm gonna need another one. Any suggestions on how I can avoid this problem aside from the obvious answer (stay out of the water)? Is there anything I can dump in the side of the unit to prevent corrosion, the side where the pull starter is? I know theres a access hole on the top of the casing. I've drained the unit once or twice in the past and get very litttle water out of it, just a few drips. When I use my pull starter (a great feature) the cord is almost always wet. My seal seems to be good around the casing as well, last time i took my starter off I had a corroded seal which i rerplaced. Help! hdnvn
