once you got a porting on that thing you might look as well to throw out
the starter kit and lighten the flywheel a little, there so easy to
fire up then, especially with some more electrical output.
even with a fouled plug the race kit start the first pull....

We have had zero complaints and zero problems with our 38 & 42 tmx carb kits in all of my years of tunning flatslide carbs have been easier to work on and now days that is all we see on sleds & atv's. In all of the testing we have done we have not found a round slide carb on any machine have the throttle response of a flat slide either. Just thought I would post our experiance thsi post seems a little one sided.

that exactlty what i try to explain with the PWK,it is a flatside
carb "RACING" vent lines and pre-atomized vent-lines for the better
throttle response on this motor for the money spent, and i kwnow
what i tell you,i tried every of them through the years (tmx 38-42 and PWK 39,lectron 44).

Will these carbs make a diff on how it runs in regards to the throttle positions variations and hiccups or is this just something typical of a 2 stroke or the stock carb in particular?
You know how when you first start your 400 and do a run it sputters a little and hiccups until it warms up, well mine still does the SLIGHT hiccup thing most the time, not as bad as startup and its not sputtering.
Also the throttle will vary on its own, up mostly, even if you hold your thumb steady.
Thanks,
Jim

i never put the tranny forward during warm up til about 400 degrees,
if you do not warmed enough before riding, the motor will just fade as you ride longer, there is no hiccups if the pilot jet is properly setted
and air filter is clean.til now with the pwk on HPD race mods kit,
i didn't find any flat spot through the throttle positions yet,
as you decrease the main jet powerband become clear as well.
you may check your needle clip, cauze it seem to be out of range,it happen sometime cauze it does vibrate.

hey Jim, my 97 explorer does it too. i can let it sit at idle for 30 min and it will still sputter until i get on it. hey scramblered when you say 200 do you mean exhaust temp or water temp. i dont have exaust temp but my water temp never goes over 190.
