learned my lesson

Well...i'm somewhat embarassed to say but today when i went riding i found a trail off of a gravel road by my house that led down to a river thats in my back yard..sure enough there was a HUGE SANDBAR so i was rippin around and then i was sprayen rocks into the water and b4 ya knew it i was driven up the river on my quad. Of course b4 i headed out i looked and the water was so shallow i could see the sandy bottom the whole way across! i mean it was like 1 foot and a half deep at the most. But one thing i didnt think about was the sand and the current.....
As i was going upstream i noticed i was slowing down so i decided to give it some more gas (stupid me...i should have let off and started to back up) b4 ya knew it i was up over the rim in sand and was stuck.....
So there i am...in the middle of the river...all by myself..stuck..w/water flowing by me... So as i'm freaking out i jumped off my quad into the water, ran to the edge of the river, up out of the river onto the gravel road and then i ran to the nearest house i could get to that i knew had a quad...
Now i just had to pray to God the person were home and sure enough they were!!! so i went to the door told her what happend and she just laughed at me and said give me a minute to change and we'll go get it out! so thank God she got on there quad..gave me a lift back and helped me winch my quad out of the river, and when it was all over with all she did was laugh in my face and told me that if i get stuck again that they'll be willing to help.
I'm glad theres so many good ppl out there

nice catch, theres a river behind my friends house and he went in with his dirtbike and he dove it deep enough to the point were half of the intake was submerged, then he kept going even though it was starting to sputter and he drowned it, so, then trying to get it out hes moving it back and forth to get momentum and he drops it off an under water cliff (just a few inches) and drops the bike totaly under water. so, i call him an idiot, laugh in his face for a few minutes, pull my seat off and make sure my clamps on my intake are on tight, put the seat back on, and drove into the river, i put it in low and 4x4 and i pulled right up beside his bike under water (water was over the racks) stopped, untied the tow strap, pulled this goggles off his helmate and gave them to him, and he dove under water to tie it around his handle bar.
while he was doing that i walked ahead to see how much deeper it got, and it only went down maybe an inch more, so i swam back to my quad, put it in low (yay for backpressure!!) and started pullin and we got up to the bank and his bike was alllllll green with algy and seawead type crap, and so was the bottom half of my 4wheeler, lol
end of story, all the oils and everything was fine with my quad, no need to change, but my buddys bike had to have the fuel drained, new sparkplug, carb dried, muffler drained, cylinder dried, new oil, new front break, and tightend the chain, new air filter, also drain the tires because the beads broke under water. heheh, flimsy hondas

I have been there many times befor, i no exatly what you were going through, your by your sell and then somthing goes wrong, you no you will be ok but its just the fact. I got stuck in a river by my house once that i shouldnt even of been in. It was a river that goes through the neighborhood. like you said it was only like a 1ft deep but then as i kept going the water got deeper. I decided to get out but there was no exit. the banks were kind of high but i was confident i could get out because my scrammy had 4 wheel drive. well as i was going up the bank i noticed my 4 wheel drive wasnt kicking in. i had a 2x4 now. I reversed back and just gunned it and hoped i could get up and i did. Also i was by the river once and i rolled my quad of a hill. wehn i went to push it back over i clouldnt because of the incline. My oil leaked out, recked my filter, i got it out though, had to get a neighbor but i got it out.

yeah the thing i was really worried about was water going over the intake...that happend to me in wisconsin last year and i had to drain all my oil and change it two times..it didnt help sense i was on a trip and it happend the 2nd day! and the day b4 that i had flipped my quad w/in 20 minutes of getting to the riding area! lol i've had my blonde moments b4 but rarely w/my quad...i was pretty surprised this happend today...but at least i found a nice shallow sandy area for swimming
