Default Scrambler Chain Maintenance

As some of you know, I just got my 01 scrambler. It is my first chain drive ATV. What type of maintenance should I do to the chain? oil, etc. WHAT TYPE OF OIL DO I NEED TO USE? Also, how are the new chains different from the ones used on three wheelers? I have heard that the new chains are alot better?

Also, my bike does not have a chain tensioner. Do I need one? Why would I need one - jumping, etc.

Thanks again for all of your help

I use bar and chain oil, like you use on a chainsaw. I screwed one of those water-bottle squirt tops onto a 1qt bottle. Just pour it on the chain as I push the quad.

I don't know if that's what most use, but it's worked for me. I do it about every ride because I am mostly in the mud and the chain is usually scraping in the dirt (damn solid axles).

I use the Bel Ray chain lube. No matter what kind you use, you want to make sure it sticks to the chain.

i would get the HPD chain tensioner it was save you mony on chains. other wise you'll have to buy new chains offen.also use bel-ray chain lube or they use to have a wax spray that was good too

I also suggest a HPD chain tensioner. As far as lube I just use the Polaris stuff or Tri-Flow.

Most importantly, DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR CHAIN. I see too many people on the trails who never adjust their chain and forget about even checking it before they ride. Not good.
