Sorry about the rain. But hey, beats a good day at work.
I'ma go outside with the auger and drill a few test holes in the lake and see if i can fourwheel out there today. I'm thinking there should be a good bit. One day last year there was almost 30 inches of ice.
I'm always amazed how much weight good ice can hold. 26 inches holds 40 tons. 4 inches holds 1 ton, more than enough for a sled or quad and the idiot on it .

hell yeah, waiting for january first to set the first trap.
Drilled some holes today, looks to be about 6inches of good ice with about an inch of crap on the top. Good enough for me. And just finished plowing a nice big rink. about 150 feet by 50. That V-plow we got is amazing, cuts right through the crusty snow and makes angle plowing very easy.
Now we just need a below-zero night so we can flood the ice with a submersible pump and get a nice zamboni-quality rink.

Yep, the lake is called Springy Pond, in Otis and Clifton, Maine. It's very small, but I think i found a map:
linky.
If you look on that map, near the center is the town name "OTIS". The small pond just to the southeast of that is springy pond. if you click on it you can zoom in and see it better.

Ice fishing is the best kind of fishing. You spend the whole day sitting on a lake, fourwheeling or snowmobiling or just hanging out, waiting for orange flags to come up. You see a flag, you get on a wheeler and ride 20 feet over to it and take out your fish. Then put more bait on and do it again.

I think the jet runs on 87 octane, gives it more power, pings a little at high altitude.
