I was up at a game farm over the weekend and drove a 2003 2500 hd Duramax diesel. It also had some type of performance chip in it, what a hotrod that thing is. I was impressed. Doc

What brought this back?
Diesel is now about the same price as gas but I'm still happy with my gasser for the amount of driving I do.
If money weren't an object, I would go diesel, especially in the RV.
Who me?

I was bored.

I bought a '92 F350 7.5L 4X4 about a year ago. . It was very used and under 4K. any used diesels started at 6K and those had a minmum of 400K miles. Gas it is!!

If money were no object a few things would be different.

It's amazing what you can do to a diesel to wake it up. I wonder how the rest of the drivetrain can handle it.

"game farm"?
We call them pubs where you can play video poker.

It was a rare moment for me. I rarely have much time for the forums anymore. I was just waiting for this page to load and remembered the heated debate. As a mod you sometimes look at the forum a bit different at times. Still cant remember which mod was diesel "friendly" LOL

Enough of that.....

If/when I get a diesel i think i would get a manual transmission. I dont think they break much and with close to 1000lbs of torque with a few mods. I dont thikn you could keep a auto tranny cool enough hauling a load.

Ever hear of the national bird dog challenge? I was up in Hayward WI. Judging a tournament for them, it was way cool.

I don't remember much about the diesel debate. Just that it made me laugh, and it was before I owned a diesel.

The allison transmissions are pretty strong. I've been doing some research on controllers. The good ones seem to all have sensors that will cut the added power if the tranny starts to slip. Doesn't seem to be a common problem under the +125 hp range. From what I've been reading it's c-3 (clutch 3)that is most commonly damaged. I guess shift kits are supposed to help. The only way I can see that, is that it wouldn't be "lugging" the tranny and causing it to slip. As it is, my right rear is nearly bald. It will spin a few feet, then the electronic locker will kick in.
