Replacing Polaris ignition switch
Lost my key and have to replace the ignition switch on my 2005 Polaris Sportsman 700 EFI. Is this something I can do myself or is it involved enough to make a trip to the dealer. If anyone knows how to replace this or has the page on it out of a tech manual I would appreciate any help. Also why cant the dealership or Polaris make new keys when I have both the VIN and KeyCode #.
Thanks

Replacing Polaris ignition switch
I just had an experance along this line myself.
I was out for a 13-day camp and lost not 1 but 2 out of 3 keys (had 3 atv's that trip). I was glad I had the wiring diagrams and some spade connectors. Figure out what I had to do to bypass the ignition switch. Mine only had 4 wires. 2 of them had to be open and the other 2 jumper on the wiring panel under the front hood section. So I made a short 5" piece of jumper wire and went to work per bike. The ATV now were turned on and off by the Off/Run switch on the handbar.
Not not knowing how your ATV ignition switch is wired, but I would look into in the wiring needs of the switch.
BTW, the switch itself on my ATV's was rather easy to deal with, 1 large nut on the pod. Take the pod apart to remove the switch and remove the rack to gain access to the wiring panel under the hood/cowling to pull and rewire the switch leads.
