I'm in need of a rear shock for a '97 400 Sport. The shock that is on it now does not rebound very well and makes a swooish noise when doing so. Can these stock shocks be re-charged? New to Polaris so any help would be greatly appreciated. What a pain in the butt to change the oil.

First off your right about the oil being a pain in the butt to change on my scrambler when I go to drank the oil it gets all over the frame. And you need a hose extention on your funnel when filling it with oil.
Know about the shock if you have a FOX shock yes, if you have a stock shock yes they both can rebuilt. But if I were you I would seriously upgrade to the FOX shock if your machine dos'nt already have one.

It does have a Fox rear shock. I also need to get a air filter that hooks directly to the carb for the one that is on it now leaks. I want to do away with the air box. Here goes the first ring job. I was thinking a K&N with an outerwear, but I do ride in a dusty climate. Maybe a Moose foam? Can anyone give me idea on the set-up for the air filter.

A K&N with an outerware is perfect for your riding conditions. If your going to do away with the air box and only have the filter on there make shore you measure the radius around the carb. so you dont get the wrong size filter.
And if your running no air box I'd ask your dealer about rejetting it. because you will be getting a big increase of air.
Hope this anwsers your question.
