Default Weight Makes a Big Difference.

My 2005 sp500 vs. a 2002 sp700. I am usually 1.25 to 1.5 lengths behind in a drag to 40 mph.

My sp has 110# of accessories. I took it all off and weighed it.

So to make things fair we loaded 90# on the racks of the 2002 sp700 today and then we raced.

With the added weight now we're neck and neck, but the 700 will edge out the 500 by a tiny bit.

The 700 used to pull away from me pretty good, however, once we accounted for the weight difference it was a different story.

My sp500 is stock. His has an aftermarket exhaust. He will put the stock exhaust back and and maybe I will beat him. (wishful thinking)

I rode our 05 sportsman 500 ho today and after riding my 05 700 efi, the 500 seems so weak!!!! I didn't realize how much sstronger the 700 was over the 500. A huge difference! The 500 seems sluggish on take off compared to the efi. I hadn't been on the 500 for about 7 days and when went to start it , it was almost dead. It barely started. Has anyone else had a problem with a battery. This machine is 3 months old!!!

I went from a 03 600 to a 05 800 EFI. i couldnt believe the difference. i was just out with my buddies today and one has a 04 600 and the other has an 05 700 carb. off the line on a drag 800 out front all the way 700 4 lenghts behind and the 600 about 8 lenghts behind the 800. i topped out at about 62 mph. we went just about a quater mile. my friend who has the 600 i let him take the 800 and he couldnt believe how much more power it had. from the 600 to the 800 i notice i can blast up alot more hills without question.

The 700 has larger than stock tires on it and when the stock tires were on it was a different story.
Not to mention the rider is 30-40 pounds heavier.

The '05 500 HO is impressive and clutched good down low.

I think tires has a lot to do with it. How much air are you running in your tires Jim? I done some time runs and going from 3 pounds to 8 pounds took 1/4 second off my time.

5 psi all around.

the weight DID make a difference but the closer runs were with me going off his start.
When we went even off the line at a count of 3 it was a little more pronounced but the 500 is definitely game.
